The Geo Metro Convertible Was a Hilariously Pathetic 50-Horsepower Economy Car

Geo Metro review!!! The Geo Metro Convertible is a tiny convertible economy car with no frills and almost no power. Today I'm reviewing the Geo Metro Convertible, and I'll show you all the quirks and features of this little car. I'm also going to show you what it's like to drive the tiny Geo Metro, and I'll review the Geo Metro driving experience.

Who were GM aiming this car at, vertically challenged with nowhere to go in a hurry and living in an area with no steep hills?

All the cheap Japanese cars Doug says General Motors re-badged as "Geo", cos they were too cheap to be part of the US manufactured GM model range sound pretty good to me. I'd have taken a re-badged Toyota Corolla over a compact GM any day.

Honestly, the roof operation is pretty simple and straight forward so I'll give points to Geo (Suzuki) for that I'm addition to the fuel economy. Not a bad car for the price.

  • bizophone

These cars were like $200-500 each in high school. My buddy had the wagon version of the Metro and its auto transmission would get stuck in 2nd.

Soooo, this was basically a badge-swapped Suzuki Swift? Suzuki sold these in Europe in the '90s and they were on par with the Ford Fiesta, reliability-wise. These (the 4 door hatchback version) are still on the roads in my country right now. That is quite impressive for 25 year-old cars.

I had a car dealer with a sense of humor back in the late nineties. I took in my new F150 for warranty work and provided a 2 door Metro as a courtesy vehicle. It was the automatic and bright red. I'm sure they did it to discourage warranty claims. I was not a repeat customer.

  • JONS

I'd buy that it matches my personality ... dumb and basic 🤣🤣🤣

First new car of my life… 1989 red LSI… I loved it… 55 mpg to college and back. No safety features back then so it could be very light. The Suzuki swift was sold in Canada with a bigger engine.

With a 5 speed manual, these things were a BLAST to drive! You could even put a turbo on them pretty easily. And to top it off, they sipped gas, so my buddies and I never gave it a second thought to take a road trip to San Diego or Albuquerque for the weekend.

It's weird to think that if Malcolm had convinced Malaysia's Proton Holdings to sell its sedans in America it would have been received a better outcome Proton had already made a few LHD Proton Sagas that instead of a 1.5L engine the US spec car had a 1.8L engine ah lost opportunity..

More pathetic is the fact that today car manufacturers create less convertible cars because they sell more stupid SUV's. I would rather drive this "pathetic" suzuki swift (geo metro)convertible in stead of a Volkswagen T-Roc Convertible (it looks like a stupid "kubelwagen").

Not really seeing the "pathetic" here. Sure it's got a weak engine and it's a relatively tiny car, but honestly it's nice looking and it's a convertible. Even in a cool color. The tone is a touch snide. And since when is an actual key something worth making fun of? Cars had keys up to five minutes ago.

They will light the tires up in 1rst gear an u can bark all 5. Also 2 other points u can have flat tires on the car an not have to worry about damaging the rims tires will not squish flat.. An fun in the mud just about cant het stuck an if u do & have a passenger just pickup the front end an move it. An it will reach 90mph eventually

It has to be a Doug demuro video with him going “this” in his friendly way

My dad gave me a 4 door Suzuki sidekick when I was 16 or so. This car basically seems identical. I had to change how I drive, it was imposible take a left into oncoming traffic

No respect for the lil cars I’m always getting cut off by people. I think it made me an aggressive driver when I’m not driving the geo.

A few years ago, I saw a Metro being towed by an RV that had an amusing bumper sticker on the Metro… “Please be patient, I’m pushing this huge RV!” It’s better to think of a Geo Metro / Suzuki Swift as a Quadrunner with full fairing body kit…

  • Lawfish66

Dude, my first car was a Geo Metro! And this was in 2017! Just to add, owning her SUCKED cause she didn't have an A/C (had a heater tho!), had manual roll up windows, did 0-60 in enough time for my future kids to graduate college, no suspension, and was an absolute death trap in the making. That being said, she did very well getting me around, was SUPER cheap to top off and didn't guzzle gas, got me a lot of attention for sure, managed to get me from Washington to California during a snow storm in the grape vine that bogged down more powerful cars, and the best part...I got her suped up with a badass sound system and would drive her around *THUMPIN* ! 😂😂😂😂😂 it was a blast! I'd play Initial D music while cruising down lone roads, pretending like I was blazing past the scenery while my hearing was assaulted by the big ass bass in the trunk and the 8 inch speakers I got mounted in her door panels. I eventually junked her, but I will always have a soft spot for the Geo Metro as a result of my experience with her
